Check Out The Condom That Changes Colors to Detect STD!

Shocked? This was our reaction too when we read about them.

Three school boys Daanyaal Ali, 14, Muaz Nawaz, 13 and Chirag Shah, 14 – from Isaac Newton Academy in Ilford, Essex have won the TeenTech award, a prize of £1,000 and a visit to Buckingham Palace for the best health innovation. They have invented S.T.EYE, a condom, that can detect infections, including chlamydia and syphilis or any other STD.

This condom changes colour when it comes into contact with sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia and syphilis. For example – if its chlamydia, it turns green, while syphilis will turn the condom blue. These condoms contain a layer of molecules which will attach to the bacteria present in STDs. This contact causes the molecules of the latex material to change colour depending on the infection present. S.T.EYE condom is basically to warn people if a strain of bacteria is present in either of the partners.

Daanyaal said: “We created the S.T.EYE as a new way for STI detection to help the future of the next generation. We wanted to create something that makes detecting harmful STIs safer than ever before, so that people can take immediate action in the privacy of their own homes without the invasive procedures at the doctors.”

Innovative! But will you ever use it? Tell us!
