We are bold, beautiful, shy, frisky, happy, youthful and perky. We are the women of Jaipur.

We carry ourselves in our own unique manner where fashion impelled with our ages old cultural values. Be it a saree, a salwar-kameez, a pair of jeans or a dress, our ensemble looks different from women of other cities.

Following the latest runways is not new for Jaipur women. They might not talk about it every now and then like metro women, but don’t be surprised to find their closet full of cut-outs from latest styles by renowned designers. The fashion weeks and shows such as the recent Lakme Fashion Week are definitely for us and we are for them!

This Lakme India Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 had something for everyone. With a plethora of designers, some novel and some time-honoured, it was quite a show.

Designer Anita Dongre showcased ‘India Modern’ which in her own words – ‘It is heritage yet contemporary and is a connoisseur’s choice, which is why I am associated with the brand.’ Nildari Kumar-sitar maestro and brand ambassador of Taj Mahal was also on the ramp with Dongre.

Another highlight of the show was dusky beauty Chitrangada Singh who dazzled the ramp showcasing traditional attire for designer Harshita Chatterjee Deshpande. The collection was inspired by the temples of the south and particularly the Devdasis. Temple carvings were used as motifs and the idea was to portray the journey that goes within the Devdasis. Chitrangada justified the collection by looking ravishing on the ramp wearing a blood red lehenga and golden blouse with long sleeves.

Similarly, actress Sonal Chuahan portrayed herself as the Rajput Princess while she walked the ramp for designer Purvi Doshi. She wore the elegant Indo-western silhouette made with fabric Khadi. The collection was called ‘Chavi’ as it’s the reflection of our culture.

It is not just the ensemble that comprised this fashion show, but also the chic hairstyles.  The hair care brand TRESemme collaborated with designer Rocky Star-popularly known as Rocky S for his runway collection. The show was conceptualised to bring alive a woman’s transformation from stress to rejuvenation, in hairstyles that were created by the official stylist Daniel Bauer. Actress Diana Penty, the show stopper, underwent a live transformation during the show when she unfurled her knotted dress to reveal a black jewelled gown and undid her scarf to showcase her beautiful tresses with the iconic waves of the 1940s.

This is just a bit of the LIFW 2014 that appeared to be a very feminists’ thing and captured various moods of women, be it bold – sexy woman, a up-to-the-minute yet traditional at heart person, a servitor (Devadasis), a princess or  woman who needs a break to relax.

All this is within us – in Women. We women are the epitome of beauty, intellect and maturity. We are the muses, and we walk the ramp each day of our life. We are all show stoppers when we are a mother, daughter, sister, wife, daughter-in-law, mother-in-law, entrepreneur, employee and the like.

Share with me what your favourite trends from LFW W/F 2014 are that you want to try this season!
