Gangaur Special: Isn’t Marital Bliss A Two-Way Process?

Gangaur is one of the most celebrated festivals of Rajasthan where women worship Goddess Gauri, the wife of Lord Shiva, in order to find a good husband, or in case if they are married, women pray for husband’s health and a happy married life.

The festival goes on for 18 days where women eat one meal per day. The festival also marks the beginning of spring and harvest along with marital fidelity.

But why Gangaur is only a female-centric procession? When marriage is a two-way process, why don’t men become a part of it and fast for 18 days? Aren’t both husband and wife supposed to make equal efforts in order to make a marriage successful?

This festival has such a beautiful meaning and motto behind it. What if men are a part of it too, so that it develops as one of the best festivals in India? Just wondering.
