Patricia Narayan’s first earning was mere Rs. 50 a day. This was 31 years ago when she used to sell eateries from a mobile cart at the Marina beach, Chennai. Today she has her own chain of restaurants with a daily earning of up to Rs. 2 lakh.

After her marriage failed and her own parents disowned her, she decided to ‘neither succumb to the burden nor fight’.

Seeing her dedicated efforts while selling tea/coffee at the beach, the Slum Clearance Board gave her an offer to run the canteen at their office with a proper kitchen. All this happened when the chairman of Slum Clearance Board met her during a morning walk.

*Miracles do happen*

Her story is inspiring, at that, is an example of what we had learned in childhood – ‘God helps those who helps themselves’.

Patricia later established ‘Sandeepha’ restaurant along with her son in memory of her late daughter who passed away in an accident. Today, Sandeepha has 14 outlets across Chennai, earning INR 2 lakh on an average daily basis. She was even awarded ‘FICCI Entrepreneur Of The Year’ in 2010. She says, “My entire life has been driven by my determination to be independent. I had no time to sympathize with myself. Everybody should have a motto in life to succeed.”
