Meet Jessica Anne Colletti, A Wet Nursing Mother

Ever heard the term ‘Wet Nurse’? No. It does not mean a ‘nurse’ who is wet. Please don’t take it literally.

It refers to a woman who breastfeeds and cares for another person’s child. Why am I talking about a wet nurse, out of the blue, you may ask?

Well, that’s because just the other day I came across this beautiful story of such a woman. Meet Jessica Anne Colletti, a mother who breastfeeds her friend’s son while her friend is at work. And her picture accompanying the story is absolutely gorgeous, although, a lot of people may find it gross.

Do you see how the picture emanates love in so many directions: Jessica’s love for her own son (on the right), her love for her friend’s son (on the left), her love for her friend (feeding the friend’s child), her friend’s love for her (entrusting the child to the other), and of course, the love that will develop between the two babies (Milk Siblings).

Read the whole story here:

Mama Jessica says:”My son on the right is 16 months and my friend’s son is 18 months. I watch her son while she works…

Quite an interesting term ‘Milk Siblings’ is, isn’t it? Two beings connected through the common breast-milk that they received during their formative years. A lot of people may build another exhausting set of taboos around a child drinking another woman’s milk, but hey, where do these thoughts go when you sip those coffees and cappuccinos which are churned out of animals’ milk?

If that doesn’t sound satisfactory enough, think of those mothers who aren’t able to breast-feed their infants due to one or the other reason. Maybe she’s not well. Maybe she isn’t lactating enough. Maybe she’s not able to be there for the child. Maybe she’s temporarily unavailable. It could be anything.

In such cases, I think we will understand how beautiful and inspirational Jessica’s picture and story is. Tell me what do you think?
