The 68th Cannes International Film Festival ended this Saturday after announcing the respective winners of 2015. And it was amidst the glamour, fancy outfits and shiny trophies, that the filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan’s project Masaan was awarded the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) award. The film and its director also won the ‘Most Promising Newcomer’ Award in the Un Certain Regard section of the festival. We feel proud and congratulate them with the uttermost respect on their success.

And Richa Chadha responded loudly to all those who had underestimated her career choice with Masaan. Quite Bold? We say that winner takes it all.

Masaan received a five-minute standing ovation post its screening, leaving Richa Chadda and Neeraj Ghaywan tearful. The word “Masaan” actually means crematorium in English. The movie is set in Varanasi, following the lives of four people.

We hope that you have not missed out on the ‘Heel Scandal’ that rocked Cannes carpet (literally). To add here, Cannes also initiated an effort to bring women from the industry on the equal gender platform.

In today’s world, it is imperative we encourage, motivate and celebrate women and why not? Women can do anything, be anything if only they get the right platform. So why push them away from golden opportunities? They are smart, capable and talented. In fact, every woman reading this post is.

And kudos to every woman who brought forward her ideas, her thoughts and her passion in the form of movie making!
