Story of a Sexual Assault in a Comic Strip

  • JWB Post
  •  June 15, 2015

Jen Sorense, editor of Fusion’s Graphic Culture section, met a friend who opened up about her story of sexual assault and asked if she could draw a comic about her experience. Jen did exactly that.

This friend was assaulted after a student in her college tranquilized her and later raped her. This is from the 1970s when she was just 21 years old. Jen drew cartoons to display what happened to her in order to spread awareness about Date Rape.

Jen’s friend wanted to tell her rapist that he just can’t get away with what he had done. The comic tells the story where this friend gets raped, realizes she was a victim of ‘Date Rape’ and how she decides to deal with it after more than 30 yrs when she gets a phone call from her rapist! All this because somewhere she was traumatized deep within.
