This Sexist Company’s Job Posting Says Only Women Can Be Its Receptionist

“Female receptionists required (Candidates with clear skin will be preferred.)”
Like me, if you too see red when you stumble across such advertisements, then here is some good news for you.
The netizens not at all liked when a Canadian web design company put up an advertisement for the post of a content writer and SEO specialist, and also wrote that “Please note that the position requires filling in responsibilities of a receptionist, so female candidates are preferred.”
Anyways like there was any dearth in moronic employers going after the age old stereotypes such as women are only meant to be receptionists and a truckload of other clichéd assumptions, but it actually infuriates one further after reading the job description.
The company, one Vestra Inet, mentions that the job involves:
- Writing and consulting on website content
- Communicating with clients
- Updating existing content to improve search engine optimization (SEO)
So what does this mean? That you want to hire a woman for a tech position because the job also involves work as a receptionist and not because of the fact that you value her expertise in the content management field! Now, this is blatantly sexist.
The Linked In page of the company has become an ideal place for angry professionals letting known their displeasure for this sexist and discriminating advertisement.
“It is unbelievable that you think that this is okay to post. I can’t imagine what your work environment must be like for women.”
This is what Communications Professional Samantha Kemp Jackson wrote on the page.
What is strange is that such advertisements are actually very common in India, where just browsing across the job portals will make you see job advertisements much worse than this one.
It would really be great to see people who have embarked on a quest to find ‘fair women receptionists’ get an earful from the netizens in India!
