They say never judge a book by its cover. But the internet is a mean dimension. 20-year-old Ashley VanPevenage and her friend/makeup artist Andreigha Wazny posted a snapshot of her face before and after applying makeup, she never thought she would turn into a scapegoat of insulting and hurtful comments.
“I was having this allergic reaction to benzoyl (an acne cream ingredient). I knew I needed help to cover my acne,” VanPevenage (Washington) told BuzzFeed. Her friend Wazny posted the picture to her Instagram account @makeupbydreigh in January.
A month later, a Twitter user from Texas shared the picture as a joke.
Slowly the image gained momentum until one day Ashley saw it sitting on her newsfeed.
“After this picture was posted and I read all these comments, I lost my confidence, I didn’t like going out in public without makeup or without my hair done,” she said. “But I realized that isn’t the person I am and people’s opinions don’t matter to me, and they shouldn’t matter to anyone. Everyone should feel beautiful in their natural skin. It doesn’t matter what’s on the outside of your face, the only thing that matters is who you really are.”
So what’s up guys? Why so much hate? We all are imperfect in some way or the other.
