गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुर्गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः ।
गुरुरेव परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥१॥
1.1: The Guru is Brahma, the Guru is Vishnu, the Guru Deva is Maheswara (Shiva),
1.2: The Guru is Verily the Para-Brahman (Supreme Brahman); Salutations to that Guru.
Happy Teacher’s Day, respected educationists and dear elders who have been constantly acting as guiding lights for each one of us. This day is special, for it allows us to express our heartiest gratitude towards all of you.
To commemorate Teacher’s Day, we went to one of our favorite schools in the city, The Palace School, where we met some 14 teachers. Before introducing them to our interesting activity, we thanked the school Principal, Ms. Urvashi Warman, for supporting the campaign.
Want to know what the activity was all about that turned these 14 teachers into sincere students? We made them sit around a table, and distributed sheets resembling the ‘writing boards’ along with scissors, glue and fashion & lifestyle magazines.
You read it right. MAGAZINES.
The entire life of a teacher is spent in writing on black/white boards hung in classrooms. What they write is for students. Today they had to fill this board with their dreams which they might have forgotten to fulfill in the course of time.
Most of us think that teaching profession is an easy-way-out for women, and those who choose it don’t have any other ‘important’ career to pursue. Moreover, a teacher is perceived as someone who has a boring lifestyle.
Through this activity, we want to tell the world that these women are ambitious and dream of an aspiring life, just like corporate professionals.
To begin with, let us tell you about some fascinating dialogues these ladies exchanged while browsing Vogue & Femina magazines. Of course, we overheard them to make the tray spicy! #SorryNotSorry
The scandalous ones:
“Can I have Arjun Rampal, please?”
“How about a no?”
“Look who’s talking? Someone with a desire to meet Aamir Khan!”
The filmy-BFF talks:
“Hey, do you want the red Bugatti?”
“It won’t fit in my board.”
“जगह दिल में होना चाहिए”
The desirable words:
“Aah, the lips of Nargis Fakhri! I so want them!”
“Oh no. no. no. no. I am not going to share my lunch with a duck. Stay who you are.”
And few funny ones like:
“I want page 84 of that magazine that contains one of my dreams. Dream 1074, precisely.”
“Damn, where’s my letter ‘W’?”
“My board looks unfilled. PS – this is NOT how I am in the real classroom.”
…the slightly elder ones created sentences like – ‘I want to be close to my kids’, ‘To have a baby soooon, and this one that brought tears in our eyes – ‘I want some rest’.
We didn’t put any time limit for the task; after all, dreams don’t come with any kind of limit-cards. But in those 2 hours that we got to spend with them, we witnessed some interesting moments.
‘Beyoncé’ became ‘Beyon’ with a ‘D’ completing the phrase – ‘I want to perform beyond my own expectations’. The similar thing happened to ‘Rolex’ too.
This platinum ring aroused a deep desire of love, turning one of the teachers into a girl waiting for her Prince Charming,
Words like ‘Target’, ‘Aspirations’, ‘Best’ made way from mag-covers to boards,
‘Women on Top’ became one of their mottoes,
While others could relate to inspiring phrases like ‘Torch-bearer’.
We also saw a butterfly giving wings to one of them.
By the end, we realized one major thing. These women are very well acquainted with their capabilities and know that there is no stopping in their life.
You go, women!!
Calling them less ambitious than any one of us is totally unfair. They are the ones who mould the careers of successful doctors, professionals, bankers, lawyers, etc. Teachers around the world share a common ambition – a mission to make tomorrow’s future bright.
