This Pakistani Girl’s Story On HONY Is Heart Wrenching

Founder of ‘Humans Of New York’ Brandon Stanton is currently visiting the beautiful Pakistan and capturing the stories of its people for the world.
Everyday Brandon puts up a new story on his HONY’s FB page. However, today was different. He met this 20-something woman on the streets who spoke of the price she is paying of being an ambitious girl in Pakistan.
She dreams of becoming an independent girl, however, the society she lives in doesn’t allow that. This is heart-breaking.
Read what other girls have to say in the comments under this post:
“Story of almost every girl turning 20 in Pakistan.”
“I once did a mistake to share my dream of being independent enough to have my own house, car and career to my nieghbourhood’s elderly lady. Well, she gave me a crooked look and made fun of me saying that men don’t like their women to be superior to them or of their level. They always want to “control” and “lead” that women. If you contineu having this dream you will never find a husband and even if you do he won’t respect you. So, I won’t marry if that’s the truth. I mean does our lives revolve around men really that much that we are willing to be the dirt of thier shoes? I rather never marry then lose my freedome to a selfish man.”
“That’s the price honey. Independent means alone, by yourself. You travel, you move for career and family is a distant cloud who wishes you well. That’s the Western model. Consider carefully what you really wish. I’d give up everything to go back into dependency.”
But my favorite one is where someone is encouraging her:
“Hey, beautiful girl!! Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
All the best, stranger girl.
