Yes, it’s proven. Some men can be pretty creepy. Some researchers actually studied the creepiness quotient in men and women.

Researchers from the Knox College carried out a study titled “On the nature of creepiness,” through an online survey of 1341 individuals between the ages of 18 to 77. The sample size comprised of 1029 women and 312 men. Researchers asked them to describe their perceptions of creepiness by defining it as “anxiety aroused by the ambiguity of whether there is something to fear or not.”

The results were a whopping 95 percent women participations admitting that they perceived men as being more likely to be creepy than women.

The interpretation of the study also highlighted that females are more likely to perceive a sexual threat from a creepy person. Also, some occupations and hobbies are more strongly linked with creepiness than others. It was found that that clowns, taxidermists, sex shop owners, and funeral directors were perceived as the “creepiest” occupations.

The lead researcher of the study Frank McAndrew reportedly said,

“I think it makes good sense that men would be perceived as creepy more frequently. If getting “creeped out” is about being on high alert to determine if there is something to be afraid of or not, men ought to set off the alarm more than women would. Men are more potentially dangerous to men and women alike; it could also explain why women (more than men) are likely to perceive some sort of sexual threat from a creepy individual.”

However, he also emphasized that it was an “exploratory survey” and not the “definitive last word.”

Any thoughts?
