EXCLUSIVE: Actress Paree Sharma Reveals The Truth About Celeb Depression & More
- JWB Post
- April 15, 2016
At a certain age, almost all girls have wanted to be actresses, and all boys have wanted to be actors, and of course, we’ve never had any idea as to how difficult it is to make a living out of the profession.
Through the filter, only those who are courageous enough, or those who have the calibre & talent sail through. But no matter how important we’d think the big cinema is, regional films connect to the rural mass on an immense level.
Such is Paree Sharma, an actress who has worked with regional Rajasthani movies and has now been approached for Punjabi films, too.
JWB had a telephonic conversation with her where she talked about depression in the Film Industry, as well as the key to beginning your acting career. Paree knew that she wanted to be an actress when she was merely in Class 10th.
Here’s how it all began
I wanted to join theatre, and so I did. The thing with theatre is that it gets you noticed. It was in Delhi that I first got offered a short film. Then slowly, my career began to expand its horizons. There were Govt. advertisements, more short films.
It was then that my current Producer offered me a film. I was a little scared since it was a proper film! But, I’m happy because that film got me an award for the best Debutant Actress. Currently, I’m doing another film with him.
About ‘Ladli’
The movie ‘Ladli’ tells the story of a Muslim girl who is found by a Hindu family. They begin to raise her as her own, and that’s all I can tell you about it. The movie is set to be released in July!
On family support
Initially, they weren’t supportive, no. In fact, during theatre, my family felt that education was more important than theatre. They all believed in taking up conventional professions but soon realised that I belonged to the Art field. When they started seeing how well I was doing as well as the level of my dedication, they accepted it.
Depression in actors & actresses
Pratyusha was a good friend, and I was extremely saddened by the loss. The problem with this industry is that it’s very fast moving, and people are busy with their own problems. In times like these, imagine how it would feel when you have no one to talk to because seriously no one has the time. It is essential to have close friends outside of the industry circle. The friends who understand you, and can be there for you in the worst of times. Apart from friends, confiding in your family is somewhat therapeutic.
Social issue based movies
I want to work with caste-based movies because that’s one subject that always catches my attention. We still have a long way to go in finding solutions to caste-based issues.
On who she wishes to work with
Honestly, haven’t thought much about it. But if I do get a chance, it has to be Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwariya Rai.
Advice to budding actors
Don’t get caught in the cobweb where people demand money to cast you, they’re only duping you out of money, and it will be of no help to you. You can’t be an actor if you have to take such measures to start your career. Beware of such people! Acting is all about following a discipline and enhancing your talent. Nothing else.
That’s some great advice, Paree. We hope to see you create a new dimension in the world of regional cinema. Way to go!
