VIDEO: Men Recite Sexist Things Women Listen At Work

“When I am not laughing at their jokes, they say that I am being too emotional.”
“When I tell my boss that I am going to have a baby, he says that “But you are doing so well in your career!”
I bet that if you are a working woman, then once in a while in your career you have had to face such questions in your working place.
Going by the fact that these questions are sexist, inconsiderate and reek by patriarchy, have you ever thought how to spread awareness about them?
And that is what ad agency TBWA did on the International Women’s Day, when they collected such quotes from women working in the advertising world about the harassment and discrimination that they face in their workplace and created a video based on them. In the video we see men from the advertising industry take up this issue by uttering these quotes.
As we hear them talk about how if a woman does well in her career she is termed as lucky or the repeated questions that whether women can have it all, exposes the blatant gender discrimination and inequality in the industry.
What worse is that we often get to hear such questions even from people we know in real life, who surprisingly don’t find them sexist!
So how is it that when a woman talks to a man about his performance is in office she is termed as bossy? Why is she asked again and again that how she balances both her life and work? And it is a shame that some women are often called in meetings and said that “you just need to look pretty!”
These are all the things that these men say and do you know what the best part is? Even when uttered by men, these words sound absolutely disgusting and draw our attention towards this problem.
This video, titled Take the Lead, is part of TBWA’s campaign 20/20, which aims to increase the leadership of women in the advertising world by 20% before 2020.
It is after watching the video that one understands how the woman might feel when her boss addresses all the men around her as equal, but when it comes to her, the fact that she is a woman always clouds his vision.
If you stand for gender equality, and want to put an end to harassment in a workplace, then you gotta watch this video!
