Is It Fair For The Govt To Remove Western And Urdu Poetry From Class VIII Syllabus?

  • JWB Discussion
  •   February 18, 2016

The syllabus of the students of Rajasthan has been modified. Seems like they’re dragging politics in secondary education of schools. The poets of the West have been replaced with a ‘regional’ twist. Too much of ‘Make in India’, it seems.

John Keats, Thomas Hardy, and other legendary poets have been replaced with poems such as My First Visit To The Bank, The Brave Lady of Rajasthan, Chittor, Sangita The Brave Girl and The Glory of Rajasthan.

“Most of the Hindi chapters that were dropped were loaded with Urdu words, which were difficult for the students to understand,” a member of the textbook committee justified. “We were also directed to strike out those chapters whose theme revolves around a particular faith.”

Are you in support or against this decision of the Textbook committee? Let’s discuss below.
