She completed her run in 2 hours 38 minutes and 38 seconds to become the fourth Indian woman to have qualified for Rio Games women’s marathon. We’re so happy!

Kavita was born in a small village of Nashik. Today 30, she has earlier won a bronze medal in 10,000 metres race at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in 2010, a silver medal in 10,000 metres race at the 2010 Asian Games, and was also awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2012.

In 2013, she married Mahesh Tungar, whom she considers the man behind her success. She once said, “We are from a very orthodox family. I am able to continue with my sport because of my husband’s support. I was off to a national camp just 10 days after our marriage.”

We wish you all the very best, dear Kavita. Enjoy the glory!
