The superhero cops of Jaipur have come up with a wonderful initiative to fight crime & monitor complaints on police behavior (traffic points and otherwise). They’ve launched a WhatsApp number through which Jaipurites can now report crimes.

The number is 7300363636. I think it’s a brilliant initiative and will help cut down the number of crime activities in the city. Sanjay Agarwal, commissioner of Jaipur, said, “See, the helpline number 100 of the police control room and its activities will remain same whenever people use it. But, this number is started for the public so that they can directly interact with us. They can update on any bad behaviour of policemen, or some good thing done by a policeman and can share pictures and videos of any crime scene they are witnessing.”

He further added, “The number would be manned by our trained staff at the police control room in order to ensure that in the case of emergency the inputs should be given to the police station or nearby police van. It would be fully under the monitoring and supervision of the crime branch of Jaipur police commissionerate. We have trained our staff and have also told them how they can segregate various kinds of information or updates they will get through this number.

The trained staff that will be handling the messages have been guided to be extremely active and maintain a serious approach.

It is not a half-hearted attempt to show that we are just sharing a number for the public. We will use it as a better interactive tool through which people can also update us on the working of our men at various police stations. I am sure it is going to be a handy tool of communication as these days people are seen using WhatsApp more than SMSes.”
