Sara Petty Is Taking On Body Shamers, One Tweet At A Time

Meet Sara Petty, a 20-year-old student at Bowling Green State University from Sunbury, Ohio. She’s slamming the body-shamers in a unique way.

Like million other women, including me, Sara, too, was fed-up and furious with being told that what women who are ‘fat’ should wear and what they should not.

So, she decided to take them by these four photos and tweets directed at people who weigh 200 pounds or over.

She said in an interview,

“I had seen a tweet from someone saying that 200-pound girls shouldn’t wear bikinis. I just did some quick searches and found a bunch of similar tweets, so I decided I could do my part to chip away at body-shaming however I could.”

She took similar tweets that rejected various dress codes & styles for girls with certain body type (read: over 200 pounds i.e. ‘fat’) and then posted a picture of herself wearing them alongside the tweets.

In the photos, Sara Petty is dressed in a bikini, shorts (booty shorts as people call them), leggings, and a crop top. And she’s rocking it!

By the caption of the album, “Girls: Wear whatever the hell you want”, I believe, she’s empowering women to be confident of themselves, be body-positive, and shun the body-shamers.

“I hope women realize how important it is to stop tearing each other down and uplift each other. We have a lot going against us as women; we don’t need other women against us, too. I also hope that girls are able to separate who they are from the number that shows up on the scale, and realize there is no number, high or low, that dictates if you’re worthy of feeling beautiful. Body-shaming will probably always be there in some way, but I hope my post helps, at least, some women feel beautiful in spite of it.”

Bravo Sara!

*claps*

BTW, Sara reminded me of JWB’s own Ms. Fatasstic who’s taking the body shamers by storm and propagating body-positivity. Read more about her here.
