This Neerja Inspired Dehradun Girl Stopped A Bank Robbery & Saved Many Lives

“You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.”
It takes a lot of courage and determination to stand for what is right, more so, when the life is at stake.
Mitali Shah, a girl from Dehradun and an employee of UCO Bank, is the perfect example of this.
Her bravery has not only saved many lives but has also stopped her bank from getting robbed.
On Saturday, February 20, a robber entered the bank and after surveillance pointed the gun at Mitali, who was handling the cash counter. Being a weekend, there was only a few employees and customer in the bank, and everyone went dumbfounded.
Mitali said,
“I was shocked as he pointed the gun and asked me to put the cash in the bag. I started collecting the cash and told him to put the gun down.”
As afraid as anyone on the gunpoint would be, she gathered all her courage and told the robber,“I won’t give the cash, shoot if you can.”
Another girl named Majulika then drew the courage from her words and pressed the siren. As the siren blew off, the robber ran away in panic.
The police are still investigating the incident. However, the management and the police have appreciated the brave act of the girls.
The State Government awarded Mitali along with the two other employees, the Tilu Rauteli Award.
Mitali later revealed,
“I don’t know where the courage came from, but there was only one thing in my mind – either I would lose my life or everybody will be saved.”
And, on being asked what inspired her, she replied “Neerja.”
