Today, the noted film-director Prakash Jha was in town to talk about his new release ‘Jai Gangaajal’ and about the changing cultural textures in Bollywood. He was invited by the members of FICCI FLO Jaipur Chapter.

While welcoming him on the stage, FLO Jaipur Chairperson, Ms. Alka Batra, said, “We in FICCI have always focused on women empowerment. The film ‘Jai Gangaajal’, too, shares a similar mission. By showing a female Police Officer as his film’s main lead, Mr. Prakash solely wants to encourage women from all segments of life.”

The film features Priyanka Chopra as SP Abha Mathur, who is appointed as the first female SP of Bankipur district, Bihar. The story is about the fight between her and a corrupt local MLA. Interestingly, PC has done all the stunts herself in this movie.

Jha stated, “Sadly, our society is governed by various kinds of pressures. My films always try to contribute towards the needed change. As common men, we feel there is no Police-ing left in our country. However, I want to modify this perception with this film where a strict and honest police-woman will change the fate of her district. She is not someone you can woo or manipulate. She is fit, fast and a game-changer.”

He strongly belives that the film will break few stereotypes about the Indian Police, as well. Thinking that the police job is only meant for men is one of them.

Once you watch the trailer, you’re assured of the story’s power. Agree? We especially love when PC says: “Our society respects people who break rules. It’s cool. But, I like those who break such people.” (Translated dialogue)

Ask Prakash Jha about his inspiration for creating such a strong female character and he says, “I read and followed the work of few renowned women police officials of India. I witnessed the kind of work they do, including the incredible women’s helpline number service, and also visited our national police academies to meet few of them. To finalize and polish everyone’s roles, I’d to cancel16 drafts of the script.”

We’re looking forward to watching this film, and you? The movie releases on March 4, 2016, around International Women’s Day!
