Delhi Police Is Enrolling Housewives To Catch Eve-teasers!

The Central District police have decided to train housewives to spot & report crimes happening in their neighborhood. These women will be reporting cases related to domestic violence, suppressed cases of sexual abuse and street crimes.

This initiative is called ‘Operation Veerangana’ where the common women will act as Police’s Silent Observers. These women will be given a 15-day long training in self-defense, however, this will not involve any physical confrontations or other risks. On the occasion of Women’s Day 2016, the police began the process of short-listing 250 such women.

Parmaditya, DCP (Central), believes that victims often discuss their problems with women around them, and this is how the ‘Silent Observers’ will figure out the crimes happening. He said, “The selected women volunteering for us will be trained to judge whether the revelations qualify as a crime and then gather further necessary details about it before informing us about it.”

Interestingly, these women will be added to a WhatsApp group that will have the DCP as the administrator. They will be encouraged to share pictures or videos of crimes they report.
