Lilly Singh: ‘The Best Way I Can Fight Racism Is By Being Successful’

Lilly Singh a.k.a iisuperwomanii is your quintessential N.R.I. born and raised in Canada. She’s got the accent, the body language, the swag, the lingo,the self-confidence, the humour, the Works! (Oh, and a Canadian passport too!). She’s your ultimate American-girl-next-door when it comes to her inner persona. However, she’s still Indian when it comes to her skin color.

The Brown girl was in the Big Apple recently with her family, when she encountered an episode of ‘Passive Racism’ directed at her, by an Elvis Presley impersonator. He came up to them and asked if they wanted to take a picture. She politely declined and the next thing she knew, she was being branded as a hater of Americans, since she clearly didn’t look American.

Lilly Singh is the living testament proving the significance of one’s skin color in today’s world. There are some who already make up their minds about a person upon the first look, and there are some who form an opinion after they’ve come in contact with a person’s real self. So, don’t be that person who isn’t capable of looking beyond one’s skin color. Her thoughts and actions made Lilly who she is, and not the amount of melanin contained in her skin cells.

In the end, she’s a brown girl, born in Canada, making headlines all over the world, and we’re so freaking proud of her! #GirlPower
