Forget the Star Wars heroes, meet Ibtihaj Muhammad – the coolest Fencer you will ever read about.
Ibtihaj is going to represent America in this year’s Rio Olympics. Not just this, she is also making history as the first U.S. Olympic athlete to wear a hijab while competing. A follower of Islam, Ibtihaj has proved that Hijab has nothing to do with one’s success or failure.

During an interview with BuzzFeed, she spoke about her journey. Below are the excerpts:
“My parents were looking for a sport for me to play where I wouldn’t have to alter the uniform as a Muslim woman.”
“Most parents tell their kids before matches to do their best, or to have fun. My mom always said the same thing: ‘Don’t waste my money.’”
“Historically, it’s always been a white sport reserved for people with money. I don’t think it’s a good representation of the U.S., or of society as a whole.”
“I’m a very goal-oriented person. It’s been a trend throughout my athletic career: I set small goals, then once reached, I set a new one.”
