This Mommy Shares Her Ileostomy Bag Photos To Inspire Other Mothers

For those who have no clue what’s Ileostomy, here’s the Wikipedia definition. It is referred to a stoma (surgical opening) constructed by bringing the end or loop of small intestine (the ileum) out onto the surface of the skin and to the surgical procedure which creates this opening. Intestinal waste passes out of the ileostomy and is collected in an artificial external pouching system which adheres to the skin.

The mother we’re talking of is a 32-year-old woman of two from Australia named Krystal Miller.

At 15, she was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. She said, “I barely finished [sophomore year] as I was so sick. I was sleeping 22 hours a day and was very skinny. I would often have accidents where I wouldn’t make it to the toilet. Previous to having my surgery, I was about to lose my job, my relationships weren’t very good, and I couldn’t live like a normal 22-year-old. It was hard. I felt like I was dying slowly like I was rotting from the inside out.”

She now lives with an ileostomy bag attached to her body. She calls it something that “gave me back my life.”

She added, “Having an Ileostomy has given me the opportunity to live my life. I’ve gotten to travel the world, work full time, have a family, and be just me. Having a bag does not and should not stop you from loving yourself and being exactly who you want to be.”
