JWB Outsources Work-Related Inspiration From Priyanka Choudhary

  • JWB Post

Are you someone born with comforts and recognition in life? Yes? No?

Well, whichever be the case, we recently met a girl – Priyanka Choudhary – who earned them for herself and earned them pretty well.

An independent (and the sweetest, I must say) woman, Priyanka has been working with leading BPO’s for nine years now. Her decision to start working right after college seems courageous and truly inspiring to many. While Priyanka keeps up with her reputation at work, she maintains the necessary balance in her life by practicing the Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism.

Sounds interesting, doesn’t it? That’s precisely why we set out to know more about her. Read the excerpts from our conversation with her.

Give your definition of success.

I believe that being truly happy is the highest level of success.

Which is the most crucial life value that determines one’s success/failure?

Trustworthiness

What is your favourite quote?

Nichiren Daishonin: “Unseen virtues give visible rewards.”

How would you rank the following according to your priorities: Money, Work, Joy, Family.

  1. Family
  2. Joy
  3. Work
  4. Money

Who or what motivates you to work hard?

My circumstances have more or less forced me to work hard. I have not had an easy life since I was young. When I watched my family struggle through the harsh realities of life, I had realized my responsibilities towards them and started working. Also, I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I had to earn it!

What helped you be the “youngest achiever” in your workplace?

My mentor, Dr. Daisaku Ikeda always said, “In Gakkai, do a work of one but at your workplace do a work of three. Always focus on becoming indispensable and success will follow naturally.” It’s his philosophy, and that’s what I have followed.

How have you dealt with criticism by seniors, colleagues, and subordinates?

I think criticism comes naturally to those treading the path to success. You can’t do anything about it. It’s the other people who need to deal with your success. You don’t need to deal with anyone.

Well said, Priyanka. So true!

Do you believe that age has anything to do with a level of success?

I think that success depends on your determination and on how much you’re willing to achieve. Age is just a state of mind, an unreasonable cause that stops one from moving forward on their path to success.

How do you link the level and standard of education with success?

I think it doesn’t matter at all. Education is very important, which is why I chose to work and study at the same time. I started earning as soon as I left college. It’s superficial to think going abroad to study will give you more success than others. Even people from villages can be big businessmen.

Would you rather be an employer or employee and why?

I would prefer being an employee because it has always worked very well for me in life. I think I’m able to balance my personal and professional lives better.

What do you love about your workplace?

The leadership style followed in my current organisation is very approachable and humble. It motivates me to work harder.

Tell us about your recent encounter with someone inspirational?

A few weeks ago, I met with Kush Kamra. He said, “Work exists to make our personal lives better, and if you’re not able to do that work it is not worth it” and “Always invest in a long-term thing, whether it’s a relationship or work.”

Any tips on being positively recognised in an MNC workplace?

  • Be perseverant and patient.
  • Be good to others.
  • Believe in yourself.
  • Refuse to give up.
  • Follow your dreams.

Woah! Great tips, huh?

What do you do for the benefit of women?

I am working on the Woman Empowerment program. We have the mentor-mentee program for women who have high aspirations in life. They get mentors to help them fulfill their dreams. I’m also associated with NGO’s such as Jagrati and Udyan Care. I hold great interest in educating women and children. I’ve mentored and supported underprivileged girls, not only monetarily but also emotionally.

How can others contribute to the liberation of women in the corporate sector?

The society needs to be unbiased and treat them the same as men. This will solve problems. We do not need any special support as long as we’re treated equally.
