I cannot help but gape in awe after looking at Raj Mahtani’s work. He is not only India’s first jewellery designer to go to Paris Fashion Week but also India’s first jewel designer.
Raj has worked with many amazing Indian designers like Tarun Tahiliani, Manish Malhotra and Anamika Khanna and international designers like Diane von Furstenberg, Roberto Cavalli, and Biyan.
“My father passed away when I was very young,” he said, “And I had to learn to be my own mentor.”
Mahtani also spoke about one of his masterpieces, describing it as the ‘statement-necklace-on-steroids.’ It is made up of 145 large diamonds, cabochon emeralds, rubies and Basra pearls. He also mentioned that it took over 2 and a half years to complete. “We’ve revived an antique Mughal-style of enameling for this piece,” he said.
If you don’t think that’s something worth being proud of, I don’t know what is wrong with you.
Here is some of his amazing work.
