The Sexist Media Concentrated More On Her ‘Naughty’ Dress Than The Olympics

Why is there all the hype about what female presenters in the Olympics are wearing? After all, who could forget the furore that was caused on the social media and I daresay mainstream media as well over a dress that TV presenter Helen Skelton was wearing during one of the swimming events in Rio?

Literally, all hell broke loose when she was seen wearing a navy blue dress that exposed her legs. It was fashionable and also went with the fact that she was standing beside a swimming pool in nice weather.

But hey, how could people stop from being scandalized to see women wearing unconventional outfits and Skelton wearing this dress at the Rio Olympics was perhaps a bit too much for them.

She was slammed for wearing such a dress in front of children and families watching, and many people said that she should have been ‘ashamed’ for wearing such a dress.

Given the fact that at the same time over a dozen male swimmers were competing to win a medal, and none of them were wearing pyjamas, one can ask this question that why such double standards.

Is it too much for us to see the legs of a woman exposed since we all want to forget the fact that women have legs too?

The media too covered this incident in a particularly sexist way by carrying it in their headlines that how Skelton was wearing a ‘naughty’ dress.

At times it seems to be really stupid to see that established media houses like Daily Mail taking up news with such sexist overtones that just gives more fodder for the conservatives to unfairly target women.

If female presenters are wearing low-cut dresses then they are not appropriate for underage viewers and even if they are sporting sunglasses, then the women are pulling off a sexy secretary act.

This mindset has to be changed because every time a woman is judged by her clothes rather than the job she is doing, we are taking a step back. Come on; people grow up!
