Here’s Why The Director Of ‘Sexy Durga’ Is Receiving Threats

Religion in India is above all and people can go to any length to “safeguard” their Gods and Goddesses’ “honor” and “purity.”
Maybe this is the reason why a man is threatening the Malayalam director, Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, whose latest movie is titled, ‘Sexy Durga.’
Soon, after the movie won the Hivos Tiger Award at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam 2017, the director started receiving threat messages from some Rahul Shrivastava, who claims to be the president of an organization named the Hindu Swabhiman Sangh.
The man apparently has an issue with using ‘sexy’ as an adjective for Durga, who’s a Hindu Goddess. And, he has threatened Sasidharan to change the name to Sexy Sreeja, which btw, is also a name of an Indian Goddess.
In a , the director has published the screenshots of the threatening messages with a note,
“They claim to be the saviors of our culture… His problem is that my film has hurt his religious sentiments by adding the word “Sexy” before the name of “Goddess Durga.”
“When I said my film has nothing to do with “Goddess Durga” he is asking why I am not putting the name “Sexy Sreeja” referring to my wife’s name. When I said “Sreeja” is also a goddess name, he is telling me that Shreeja is my wife’s name too. Arrey bhai.. Use the same logic here, please.. Durga is the name of so many poor girls too.”
He also justifies that the plot of the story has no relation to the Goddess Durga and in fact, throws light on the hypocrisy of the society, where women are worshiped and deemed goddesses and yet they are the biggest victims of violence in our country.
Nowadays, most people in our country are becoming intolerant towards a lot of things and it only shows the growing hypocrisy in our culture.
And honestly, I think it’s a cheap attempt by the president of the so-called Hindu Swabhiman Sangh to garner attention and publicity.

Many celebs and other directors also came in support of the Malayalam director. Bollywood director, Anurag Kashyap tweeted in support of the film and said, “I am dying to see the faces of the people on the timeline when they actually see the film “Sexy Durga” and they realize it’s about them.”
