The festival of Diwali is over. But the festive feeling is definitely not!
This year, the festival of lights not only enveloped the whole of India in its festive spirit but also engulfed people across the world as well!
While Barack Obama celebrated Diwali by lighting a diya in the White House, the Singaporeans celebrated it in a different way!
For this year’s Diwali, sixteen female members from Singapore’s Parliament decided to don vibrant sarees and pose for the Diwali special edition of Tamil Murasu – a Singapore based Tamil language newspaper. This initiative aimed at connecting with the Indian community.
Ms. Indranee, an MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC reportedly told The Straits Times that “she felt it was a very nice way for the MPs to connect with the Indian community, adding that the sari was a cultural symbol that could be shared with those of other races.”
