This Woman Donates Capes To Homeless Children To Make Them Little Superheroes

What could be better than feeling like a superhero? Be it Gotham’s caped crusader Batman, or Clark Kent, there’s very few of us who didn’t get swayed away by the charisma of superheroes.

Back in my childhood, I remember how I was a die-hard fan of Spiderman, who would often rue my inability to scale walls and spin webs.

It is to instill this feeling of being a superhero, which a group of elementary school kids from New York is making capes for homeless children in shelters. The idea is to inspire confidence in them so that the kids could understand that they are nothing less than superheroes.

In last month itself, 24 capes were made by the children, which were given to the kids living in the Detroit Rescue Mission in Michigan.

According to Terry Grahl, whose nonprofit organization called Enchanted runs this, this drill of preparing capes as well as giving them to underprivileged children instills much-needed confidence among them.

It not only brightens up their lives but also comes as a pat on the back for their creativity. The capes vary with their shapes and designs and also reflect a part of the personality of the kid who made it.

Grahl said that something magical happened when she saw one of the kids proclaiming himself as Batman after getting the cape and running confidently. She said that it was a feeling that was more than happiness, it was peace.

Grahl said that these capes brought out the playful and childish side of the kids, which earlier was being eclipsed under the troubles that they faced in their lives, living in shelters.

Agreed. Sometimes even very small things give us the pleasure and joy that otherwise eludes us most of the time. We are sure that these kids will grow up to become Samaritans and real life superheroes who would make the world a better place.
