VIDEO: Immigrants Share Their Struggle With Speaking English

“My mother speaks broken English because her priorities always included work. To survive, she had no time and energy to dedicate to learning English.”
This is what the next generation of the many immigrant families settled in English-speaking nations such as Britain and USA has to say about their parents not knowing the finer nitty gritty of the language. Of course, it is perfectly understandable.
In a new video by BuzzFeed, kids of such immigrants defend their parents and explain that why they speak broken English. The fact that some of these moms and dads had to struggle for their entire life in order to create better living conditions for their children is the reason that they didn’t have time to learn chaste and refined English.
The people in the video are all as swanky and hip as any other teenager or young men and women, but the emotional words that they have for their parents’ sacrifice show that how they haven’t forgotten their roots.
“My dad was a veteran of the Vietnam war. My parents had to flee the country. So every time I have to translate for them, I think about why do I even have to do that? It’s because they sacrifice so much to be here for me,” says another woman.
These acknowledgements about the struggle of their parents tell the world that how difficult it is to be an immigrant in a foreign country. How extra working hours and in some cases the parents doing odd jobs paved the way for good education for their children.
Given the fact that in everyday life they also had to deal with morons spewing hate about immigrants (read Trump) it is indeed an achievement to have your kids acknowledge your struggle.
The video is very touching and reminds one that no matter how successful we become in life, there were some people who sacrificed many things dear to them to ensure us our success.
