JWB Reader Shares A Sweet & Sour Mother’s Day Story

Every mother is precious, of course. And to show the love towards her mother, an avid reader of JWB sent us a special message, this Mother’s Day.

Our team loved the story, and especially how her mother is playing the role of both the parents, being a single mother. Read Juhi Agarwal’s story below:

Backpacks, notebooks, folders, pencils, these are the things that kids are expected to bring to school with them. But for me, there was one extra accessory I grew accustomed to taking to school every day: “My mom”. Yes, my mommy was a teacher at my school.
It was definitely a roller-coaster ride for me with my “mommy” as a teacher in the same school I studied. But now, almost 4 years after I passed out from school, the whole thing brings a wide smile on my face.
Whenever my mom came to my class for substitution, I used to become the center of attraction. All my classmates would stare at me to see if I would say ‘Good Morning Ma’am’ or ‘Good Morning Mom.’  And this always rose a question in my mind, ‘How do I address her – ma’am/mom/teacher?’

While all my friends took the liberty of calling her ”Aunty ” at school, I always chose the first ground i.e. ” Ma’am” purposefully, because I never wanted to be overshadowed or feel overprotected as a student. But believe me, this embarrassment of calling your own mom as ‘ma’am’ topped it all.
Even if I sincerely studied and obtained good marks, everyone thought I topped the class because I was a teacher’s daughter. All my classmates thought, I knew the question paper before the exam, which was apparently not true at all.
But there were indeed more perks than shortcomings.

I was known by almost every kid at school, because of my mom. I would get all the candies or at least one birthday chocolate every day, which I still do. I owned all her beautiful Teacher’s Days’ presents. Well, there are innumerable perks to being mentioned here.
All in all, life in school would have been different without my mom. ‘Worse,’ definitely.

During all my years, I never missed her. We literally spent 24 hours together under the same roof. My mother actually saw me growing, and I know she always used to swell with pride whenever any other teacher praised me.

On a serious note, I got to see how my mother had managed to be strong out of love for her profession and vulnerable out of love for her daughters (my elder sister and me) at the same time. Hats off, mom!

She has been everything a daughter could ask for and more. I’ll love her forever because she gives me wings and makes me stronger and wiser every single day. She is the biggest support to me. My sister and I really can’t thank her enough for playing the role of a strong and caring father and sensitive and loving mother so beautifully to us simultaneously. She is our ‘No. 1’ Hero.
Happy Mother’s Day, mom.
