Gone are those days when Kolkata was recognized by the old school combination of white saree and red blouse worn during the celebration of Durga Puja. Trust me, the minimalistic tendencies of stitching to vintage colors and edgy cuts, the City of Joy has a lot to offer.
Anantaya Décor has taken it upon itself to promote the hidden side of Bengal with its two-day pop-up show called ‘Made in Bengal.’ The moment you enter Anantaya store, a red bindi and some jhalmudi from Kolkata offered by its warm staff.
Curated by Stylist Chikky Goenka, the exhibition is showcasing A-lister designers like Kallol Datta, Aditya Dugar, Eshani Jayaswal, Debashri, Samanta, Pallavi Singhee, Door of Maai, Paromita Banerjee, Rimi Nayak, Nupur Kanoi, Priyanka Parekh, Eina Ahluwalia, Vasundhara Mantri and Devina Juneja.
Chikky told JWB, “I am in Rajasthan to promote Bengal. We aren’t only about bridal trousseau. Have a look around and see how handloom, too, is a crucial part of our culture. This is the young and fierce Bengal for you at Anantaya. We play with sheer, asymmetry, peek-a-boo cuts and dyes. Rajasthan isn’t the only state obsessing over them, you see!”
Check out JWB’s favorite picks from the show that you might want to fill your shopping bags with:
The geometric motifs adorning monochrome clutches by Devina Juneja’s label Suede.
Door by Maai’s androgynous shift dresses with sharp color-blocking.
Paromita Banerjee’s effortless gingham checks in ethnic wear.
