Is humanity dead? No, I am not being cynical and am pretty sure that after hearing about the ordeal of this 35-year-old woman from Kerala, you would also tread through a similar line of thoughts.
In a shocking revelation, the woman has said that when she went to the police station to lodge a complaint against four men who had raped her, the police didn’t co-operate and instead asked that which one of them gave her the greatest pleasure.
These were the exact words uttered by the police, when they were speaking with a rape survivor.
In a press conference, the woman along with her husband told the media that instead of helping her lodge the complaint and arrest the accused, the police further harassed her with such outrageous questions.
“I don’t want a police case because we have been humiliated by the police. Far more than rape, it was the police threats and humiliation that was unbearable,” the woman said to the media.
One of the rape-accused is also a CPM leader and counselor named Jayanthan. The woman said that all the accused had threatened her saying that they will kill her children if she chose to go public about the rape.
So, is this is what justice has come to in our society? If the police, instead of arresting the accused asks a survivor such disgusting questions, then what else we can expect from them?
Prominent dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi, who had come to the help of the woman and had also written a Facebook post condemning the incident also accompanied her at the press conference and spoke about the police inaction.
The Chief Minister’s office in Kerala has promised quick action to the woman but do you really think that arresting the accused will be enough in this case? Shouldn’t the policemen be also sent behind the bars for their despicable comments?
If no action is taken against the cops responsible for the statement, then it will not only be wrong but will also be a mockery of justice.
