Michelle Obama To Her 15 YO Self: “Do Not Be Afraid To Fail!”

If you could give one piece of advice to your 15-year-old self, what would it be?
Being a typical Hermione, I never experienced the fun of missing classes or breaking the rules at school. So my advice to the 15-year-old I would be, to go, get out and break some rules. But don’t go by my words. There are better people to advice you.
On International Girl Child Day, Michelle Obama and actress Yara Shahidi answered this question in an event hosted by Glamour, “A Brighter Future: a Global Conversation on Girls ’ Education.” This event was held to discuss girl power and the importance of education for girls all over the world.
Yara Shahidi who is just 16 years old replied to this question that “she would tell herself to stop stressing ― a bad grade wouldn’t be the end of the world.”
Now that my school is over, I know that nobody remembers or cares whether you got 60% or 90%. So instead of mugging up stuff just for getting ‘good’ grades, it’s more important to concentrate on the things you are actually good at.
On the other hand, the most loved First Lady, Michelle Obama said, “My advice to girls is always this ― and this is what I tell my daughters every day ― do not be afraid to fail, because that oftentimes is the thing that keeps us as women and girls back, because we think we have to be right.”
History has many instances of the most successful people getting hit by failures. But the reason that made them different from the rest was their reaction to it. As Obama said, “And the only way you succeed in life, the only way you learn is by failing,” Obama continued. “It’s not the failure; it’s what you do after you fail. Do you let it eat you up? Do you quit? Do you give up? Or do you let it bolster you? Does it serve as the challenge in your mind to do more, to take some risks, to step outside of your comfort zone?”
As the creator of the White House’s education initiative Let Girls Learn, Obama stressed the importance for girls to push through the feeling of being undervalued to succeed in life.
The dreams of most of the women get crushed under the fists of the archaic patriarchal rules that rule over us. But that is not a mountain; it’s just a rock in the path that can be thrown away only if we, girls have the courage to do so.
