Remember the startup StayUncle? Well, let me refresh your memory!
StayUncle was the first portal to introduce hotel rooms for the unmarried couples. With the idea and tagline, “couples need a room, not a judgement”, it tied up with hotels around the country where unmarried couples could rent rooms without the inconvenience and probing eyes.
Now, on the similar lines, OYO will also let the users search for hotels that accommodate and accept unmarried couples through its search filter, “couple-friendly rooms.”
The company illustrates a couple-friendly hotel as the one that does not require a proof of marriage to be given and won’t demand a photo ID specifying the name of the spouse and documents that attest the fact that the home address of the client is in a different city than where the hotel is located.
According to OYO, 60% of the 6000 hotels in 100 cities with which they have tie-ups are couple-friendly. The users can either search for options by clicking on the relationship mode in search preferences or filter the results by selecting the OYO for Couples option.
Interestingly, it has also being reveled by OYO that metropolitan cities like Chennai (27), Kolkata (54) and Mumbai (12) have lesser couple-friendly hotels than Jaipur (170), Chandigarh (141), and Pune (73). However, Bengaluru, Gurgaon, Goa and Delhi are on the top of the number of the ‘couple-friendly’ hotels list.
“Our whole point is – we will ensure you feel welcome, and we will respect your privacy and freedom,” Kavikrut, the Chief Growth Officer at OYO, said
The rooms are reasonably priced between Rs 1,400 and Rs 5,000 providing customers with an option of 12-hour morning and evening slots.
