Our Winter’s Tale With Stylist Aparna Joshi, Brand & Personal Wardrobe Stylist

Clients are emotional little devils, and if you don’t tug at their heartstrings, you’ll never get close to their purse strings.
This is the life story of every stylist, isn’t it?
When I bumped into Aparna Joshi during the UN-SIDART meet, I wanted to study this phrase practically. And so, we met one sunny afternoon at her beautiful home. Aparna is a Brand Stylist, Marketing Communication Director, and Personal Wardrobe Stylist.
I was welcomed with a hot cup of coffee and some home-made dhoklas prepared by her mother. Ah, the Indian mehman nawazi. Thank God for that!
Me: Let me tell you how much I want to own these leaf earrings you’re wearing right now.
Aparna: Aww, thank you!
Me: As much as you might love styling your home and peeps, how difficult it is to design for clients?
Aparna: To be honest, it’s fun to discover their interests and then work in accord. I call myself a Psychologist because I think I am quite good at understanding creative side of people. It, also, is an integral part of styling.
Me: What have been your most interesting projects so far?
Aparna: I did styling for one event of Jodhpur Polo Day. I also enjoyed doing the new store of Style n Scissors in Jaipur.
Me: I have a confusion, how is an interior designer different from a stylist?
Aparna: A stylist is always inclined towards the creative side and not much towards the technicalities. We talk fabric, colors, patterns, motifs, combinations, runways, personal taste.
Me: So, do you think Jaipurites are okay with Stylists telling them what color they should paint their walls with or what type of clothes they should don?
Aparna: Surprisingly, they’re exploring this new concept. I have done homes for many people in the city and have also been their personal stylist.
Me: Shopping is fun, and this joy doubles for you when you go shopping with your clients. Isn’t it?
Aparna: I second you.
Me: Aparna, I am totally in a mood to steal few styling tips from you?
Aparna: Go ahead!
Aparna then revealed some of the season’s top trends for wardrobes and home décor. Check them out:
HOME
Walls be like: Keep the color tone low, and try mushroom colors like gray and earthy shades. Natural textures are in. Experiment with Lava stones more than ever.
What’s new: Painted ceilings
Experiment more with: Floor, art pieces, and furniture
CLOTHING FOR WOMEN
Colors of 2016: Quartz Pink has been selected as the color of 2016 by Pantone. Also, try sunset hues and pastels.
Prints: Geometric, bohemian, and florals
Hey brides: Get rid of red, already. If you’ve got fair skin, try dusty pink. For a darker skin tone, wear serene pink.
Try now: Crop tops and skirts in raw silk.
CLOTHING FOR MEN
Check out: V-crew tee shirts and loose pants.
Don’ts: Please don’t wear socks so small in length that your skin is showing whenever you sit. Let the gentleman in you never approve of that.
What’s in: Tweed blazers
MAKE-UP
For people who have no idea what makeup is: Learn to put eye-liner. It can save your life, girls.
Experiment: Highlighted eyebrows and neutral lips.
For parties: Get goth, get red lips and cat eyes. This combination never fails to impress.
I know, I know. Y’all must be thanking me for bringing Aparna to you. If you have any specific question on how to revamp your wardrobe or home, write in the comments below and I will get back with the answers from Aparna itself!
