RCW To Launch Safety App, Chairperson Suman Sharma Reveals Its Best Feature To JWB.

Rajasthan State Commission for Women (RCW) is soon going to launch the ‘Raj Mahila Suraksha’ – a mobile safety app for women. This, also, makes it the first women’s commission to start a safety app for females.
During a quick telephonic chat with JWB, RCW’s Chairperson Mrs. Suman Sharma told how her team was indulged in app’s trial these days and looking after the training of the Police Department, which will manage the SOS calls from women in distress.
She said, “The app will be launched on June 30, 2016, and would initially cover the areas under the Jaipur Commissionerate.”
Talking about the app, she explained, “The app is free to download and is incredibly easy to use. Even if a woman, who is not tech savvy, can use it to protect herself and inform the police. Almost everybody has access to mobile phones these days, and hence, it won’t be an issue. For those who absolutely don’t know how to, the RCW team is there to help them.
I think, it’s a one of a kind app where the woman is not required to dial a number or press a button. Nobody has this much time during such unfortunate situations. The ‘Raj Mahila Suraksha’ app works on a ‘Shake it’ option. If someone shakes the phone thrice, the GPS will immediately track down her current location and send it to three institutions – the nearest police station, the women’s commission, and one personal number the girl has chosen to inform while downloading the app.
Before signing off, the Chairperson said something not all of us might have thought about while reading about the app. She explained, “The first thing that a rapist/abuser does is throwing your phone away. He tries to destroy the phone so that you are left with no communication option. This means he will try his best to snatch it from you which, in turn, will help shake the phone. Unknowingly, he will fall into his own trap.”
