SRK Gave Me A Dard-E-Disco With His “Demotional” Comment On Koffee With Karan

Yesterday, Koffee with Karan season 5 premiered, and being a gossip monger that I am I wouldn’t have missed it for anything in the world.
Enjoying fried rice and Manchurian (which I made myself), I was looking for the juicy gossip so I could just Whatsapp to my friends, saying, “Guess What happened on KWK?”
But, then SRK introduced this word to our dictionary, “DEMOTIONAL” and it just stuck with me throughout. Though King Khan explained its meaning describing it a word for today’s generation which means detached+emotional. But, I wasn’t satisfied. I googled to know if such word actually exists (yes, I totally googled Moobs, too! *embarrassed*) and Google baba displayed the meaning of demotion instead.
I was trying to check out its meaning when my WhatsApp beeped and there was a troll on NDTV ban. Now, I knew what it was about but I wanted to know every little detail of it and so for next 30 minutes I had been just reading about the ban.
And, then it struck! I am demotional.
Didn’t get it? Well, at one point we’ll be like totally consumed in one thing, but then something else will pop up on our mobile or laptop screen, and Voila! We forget about the former and that pop-up gains all our attention.
At night, I couldn’t sleep well, because I was feeling guilty of being demotional, and more I thought about it, more sense the word made. We have become detached from the real life things, too. We are so engrossed in “living a life” and posting all about it on all possible social media handles that we have detached ourselves from the reality and the only emotions are the “emoticons.” Period!
There’s so much going on all the time in our lives that we have forgotten what the Italians call as “Dolce Far Niente” which is the sweetness of doing nothing.
We are afraid of taking a day off from work or not surrounded by family or friends because that would mean a little time with yourself. It’s in the nothingness that we find our true selves, the things we enjoy, the things that make us laugh, the memories that make us cry!
Yes, sometimes it helps to be demotional, as Mr. Khan said, but as today’s gen even I want to feel the “feelings” and emotions so hard that I can’t contain my laughter, or control my tears, or can’t take my mind of something for days.
And, while tossing from one side to the other, Piyush Mishra’s words echoed in my mind, “Raaton ko chalti rehti hai mobile pe ungliyan, seene pe kitaab rakh ke soye kaafi arsa ho gaya.”
Dear Shahrukh Khan,
Thank you for this word, and I hope in the midst of being demotional, I can rediscover my deep buried emotions and find my passion like you did yours.
Lots of love,
Yours Forever Fan
Dare to disconnect with the technology and connect with ourselves more. Let’s pick a book you all wanted to read, or take a walk in the park? Let’s just paint a flower or cook a meal for one? Let’s just sit and talk to ourselves and know ourselves better? Shall we?
