Talk Journalism: Google Shares How To Get Discovered In Its Search Engine

  • JWB Post

Day one and two of Talk Journalism had proved eventful at Fairmont, Jaipur. After an insightful session about Vlogging secrets by YouTube, I moved forward to attend a session with Google.

“Getting Discovered in Search” was introduced by Syed Malik Mairaj, Senior Strategist, Search Quality at Google.

He began with sharing Google’s mission with us, “To organize the world’s information and make it universally acceptable and useful.”

He then explained the curious audience how Google ranks websites.

“There are two sections that show up when you search something in the Google search engine: Advertisements & Ranked websites.

The best way to get a good ranking for your website, so that it shows up on the first page of Google, is by being true to your content, and focusing on your users.

Google is smart, and does not sell ranking, in other words, you cannot buy organic ranking, as it affects the credibility of a website.”

The most important aspect of getting up on the search is by focusing on the user. The article should be easy, and user-friendly. If you try to overdo something, it won’t work out.

Make sure to give some attention to SEO. So, if you don’t have someone who is dedicated to complete the job, find one.

Some tips on how to prove the credibility of your content:

  1. Get a good title plus description.
  2. Have a proper site and URL structure (No xyz.com/878912ad/skjh89698$$, instead choose abc.com/work/deskjob/important)
  3. Make sure your data is structured.
  4. Use Unicode fonts

You can find some more interesting tips on Google. Make sure you don’t just stick to the first page. *wink* *wink*
