This Mother Didn’t Give Up When Her Son Was Discriminated On Grounds Of Disability

When it comes to prejudices and biased attitude, we have come a long way as a society. As if the stories about how people from various social and religious backgrounds have to bear the brunt of these prejudices were not enough, now even babies are facing such the discrimination.

But when Megan Nash found that her son Asher, who has Down Syndrome was rejected by a model agency for a TV ad simply because of his condition, she decided that a stand needs to be taken.

What surprised Megan most was the fact that Asher was rejected on the grounds of his disability with the modeling agency not even bothering to take a look at his picture.

Yes, this is our attitude towards everyone who is even slightly different from us. We tend to take it for granted that they are misfits and have no place in the ‘normal’ society.

So, Megan decided that she didn’t need the help of a modeling agency to cast Asher in the TV advertisement and posted the pictures of her son on Facebook.

And the world went crazy, making the photos viral on the social networking website.

Till date, the photos have got more than 1.11 lakh shares, with support coming in from all quarters.

Megan feels that it’s about time the world understands that babies, children, and adults with disabilities deserve to be in advertisements in the same way that any other person does.

The photos of Asher going viral on FB and the fact that people are vouching for him to get the part in the advertisement shows that the world is slowly straying away from such biased attitude.

And kudos to Megan for taking the fight for equality to the right direction, just to show the world that equality is not only an idea but our right.

We fervently hope that Asher gets the role in the advertisement. Keeping fingers crossed!
