Fitness Expert Eefa Detoxes JWB With Halasana And Cheat Ras Malai

So, Diwali happened. I had so many plans of losing weight! *Grabs onto love handles and frowns*. Oh well…

If you’re in the same boat as me, I have a surprise for you. Remember Eefa Shrof ? Well, she has some healthy ideas up her sleeve for us.

When I told her that I wanted some healthy alternatives to our mithai and samosa, she laughed. I kid you not, she did.

“How can we cheat our meals during festivals?” I asked.

You don’t. Have a glass of warm water with lemon in it,” she said with a chuckle. “Jokes apart, if you really want to cheat, have a little bit of what you want. One, two, maybe three bites but don’t go into emotional eating. If you really want to lose weight, keep a track of your goals. Remember that for burning one ladoo, you’ll have to run for an hour straight. And not jogging, running!”

Anywho, we went forward with the conversation and here were some alternatives she gave us for our favorite foods.

Samosa or Kachori

Eefa: Hm… Go for some baked potato with chaat masala, yogurt, onions, and tomatoes. Basically, a baked aloo chaat.

Gulab Jamun

Eefa: Make it out of stevia and have it without the syrup like the Kala Jamun.

Ras Malai

Eefa: My mom is looking at me right now and laughing. She says that nothing can replace ras malai *laughs*. But you can make a Sandesh with skim milk paneer and sweeten it with honey.

Vada Pav

Eefa: Jacket Potatoes.

Ice Cream

Eefa: Mother dairy vanilla sugar-free ice cream if you’re in India or sugar-free frozen yogurt.

So, this one exactly isn’t a festive thing, but I love going to Starbucks every now and then to get a chocolate chip frappuccino. What’s an alternative for that?

Eefa: Oh, I have a recipe for that! You can have a neat protein shake with espresso.

Here’s what you need:

A shot of espresso

1 scoop of vanilla whey protein

1 cup water

100 ml skimmed milk

Ice according to your requirement.

And what about those who can’t handle coffee like me?

Eefa: Then you should go for a green tea protein shake.

Here’s what you need:

1 cup jasmine green, extra strong and cooled

1 scoop of vanilla whey protein

1/2 a big banana or 1 one elaichi banana

1 tablespoon of coconut milk

1/2 cup of water

ice cubes

Finally, what exercises do you suggest we should do during festivals?

Eefa: Do weight training definitely. Go for high impact workouts for half an hour three times a week. You need to try to work out at 85% of your maximum heart rate.

Anything asanas from yoga, lol?

Eefa: *laughs* Do the halasana for digestion.

I can’t wait to try all of those alternatives. *Tummy growls*.
