Being an avid reader, I keep laying hands on books whenever possible. Out of curiosity, I picked this little book – , purely for the genre and the topic.
The Author weaves a story of a teenage girl- Muskaan (Homosexual) struggling to find acceptance in her peer circle, family and school. Sensitive and debatable topic. And how she tried to come in terms with her sexual orientation when she was left alone by her best friends.
I could completely relate to the chaos and dilemma which Muskaan was undergoing. It truly requires strength to wake up and face the same reality every day. Sigh!
Muskaan’s life was constantly bombarded with nasty remarks and never ending questions that grappled her self-confidence. At every juncture of her life, she became a soft target of being different, not fitting in the peer circle etc.
At times, I feel our mind is like a Black Hole as experiences/situations/remarks find permanent occupancy in our mind. *Sigh*
I started this book with much enthusiasm but to my dismay, I wasn’t glued to the book. I was seeking reasons to get back to the chapter and not shut the book. The first narrative for me turned out to be mind boggling as it became difficult to comprehend the characters.
At several times, I had to reread few chapters to grasp the underlying meaning. Siting
The Author in her best of capacity tried to convey a strong point regarding LGBT community and how this community is still fighting for their fundamental rights.
Even though it had the potential to bring some change in reader’s mind, this book isn’t for those who are looking for a teenage fiction. But, for the rest of readers who are genuinely interested in understanding the complexity of a teenager who is trying to get acceptance for her being Homosexual, then this book is for you.
I rate the book 3 on 5, subtracting the 2 purely for the repetitive content and the narrative leaving me perplexed.
