This App Helps Parents To Track The Location Of Their Kids During School

In the wake of numerous cases of kidnappings and violence against children, parents most often stay worried about the safety of their kids. But now, an app designed for the purpose of tracking schoolchildren by their parents and teachers have come to the rescue.

The Northstar app uses the Geographic Information System (GIS) in order to relay the exact location of the children when they are at their schools or in transit on the school bus.

Different technologies such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system aids the app in sending a notification to parents once their kids reach school and also at the time of boarding the school bus after school.

What’s more? The app also alerts the parents as well as the teachers if the kids wander off or stray away in locations where they are not supposed to go. The developers of this app, Bobbie H Kalra, and Shyam Ramamurthy said that the purpose of designing this app was because of the fact that they felt there was no proper comprehensive system for child safety in India.

This app also gives the school an alternative to the traditional attendance system as the moment a child enters the school, the GPS in his id gets scanned, and his attendance is marked. The location of the kids can be tracked both on desktop screens by parents and also by the school authorities.

In case a child gets off at a wrong stop from the school bus, it sends an immediate alert to the parents and helps them to determine the exact location of the child.

The schools can avail this service by paying Rs. 10,000 and for parents, it’s a monthly charge of Rs. 80. The fact that this new app has managed to strike a chord with parents as well as school is evident from the fact that currently many schools in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Pune. We fervently hope that more schools, too, avail this or similar systems to ensure the safety of children.
