This Nurse Walked 40 Kms In Curfew-Hit Kashmir To Save Lives

Firdousa Rashid is officially our inspiration for the day. Period.
Hailing from Tangmarg – a region in the north of Kashmir – Firdousa is a nurse who works in the ICU of SMHS Hospital in Srinagar.
Now, given the miserable violence-stricken state of affairs which have injured nearly 1500 people in the state, it is only obvious that fright and fear have made a nest in every heart.
Except this one.
Despite such turbulent circumstances, and given the unavailability of public transport due to curfew, Firdousa treaded 40 kms on foot so that she could get to the hospital from the safety of her home in Tangmarg.
“I left home at 7.45am and reached the hospital at 2.15pm. I had to report for duty. I knew there was less staff in the hospital. Duty was important as my job involves saving lives in Surgical ICU of the SMHS hospital. What is the use of ICU if there is no nurse there?” she told Greater Kashmir.
And while she was on her journey, the only thought that bothered her was the concern for her fellow nurses who had worked for 48 hours straight.
“They could not have carried on more. We had to give them respite.”
I don’t know what you have to say about this, but I think Firdousa Rashid is nothing short of a saving grace for Kashmir at the moment. Kudos to this brave woman!
