Negativity can lead to your world falling apart. Against which stands, the most powerful thing in the world: Love. The most positive thing in the Universe!

And so, I stumbled upon this article on Indiatimes, that I thought would be nice to share with you. Here are 9 ways you can kick-start your way into happiness:

1. Understand that the problem is with the ‘wrong’ attitude and not the world. 

Positivity and negativity are associated with our attitude – the way we perceive things, the way we react, the way we take rejection and the way we deal with problems  in our lives. It is difficult to change your attitude towards everything in general. A good way to imbibe this change is by thinking of the situation objectively. For instance, you can start by not taking everything personally. You need to differentiate between what people say personally to you and what their point of view is.

2. Choose your battles wisely. 

You don’t have to get involved in every argument or controversy. Pick carefully. Think before you involve yourself in a situation. Pause and ask – is it really worth it?

3. Phase out that automatic impulse to be negative. 

A good way to do that is to ‘substitute’ the negative thought with a positive one. For example, putting nice stuff in your surroundings works.  In fact, psychologists say that embracing positivity makes you happy. Reading humorous stuff, or putting happy quotes on your work table, painting something yellow, or cleaning a drawer are a few things that help dissolve negativity.

4. Make a positive mantra. 

To adopt a positive approach, you need something to tell yourself. For instance, in the film 3 Idiots, Aamir Khan had a mantra All Is Well. We at Indiatimes suggest Happy Stuff Only, but you’re free to make one for yourself.

5. Build your support system.

A support system does not only refer to your friends and family. It’s related to having the right team. People you can talk to, exchange ideas with or people who enlighten you. It’s always good to have like-minded people to go to in case of problems. Make a list of people who would be ready to help you out and are easy to deal with. Avoid toxic people at all costs.

6. Keep things light and uncomplicated. 

Keep a tab on what you are consuming. For instance, if you are reading only negative news about rapes, crimes and other stuff, your brain is bound to go in that direction. It is better to feed yourself with stress-free information, a chick flick or a healthy living article. At the same time, when you are talking to people, avoid  topics that lead to heated arguments.

7. Recognise that events are not negative, people are.

This world is full of problems, but that doesn’t mean you have to drown yourself in self-pity and give up on happiness altogether. Problems per se are not unhealthy – they make you stronger. But if you are around people who demean you or are constantly nagging and complaining about their problems, then you need to step out. There is a need to be aware of the people around you, your problems and what’s making you a pessimist.

8. Figure out the wrong situations and move away from them. 

Is there a problem that can be solved? Get on it right away!

Is there something or someone you can’t change? Distance yourself from that person.

It is really that simple. Gain some will power, think of your well-being and get going.

9. Rethink the quality of your relationships with people. 

This is a healthy habit and should be done on a regular basis. Think about the important people in your life, who’s important and who isn’t. According to Jim Rohn – ‘You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with,’ so choose them wisely.
