This Artist Paints A Dress Of All Things Good, Bad & Ugly She Has Ever Received

“To me, beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin. It’s about knowing and accepting who you are.” And so sometimes I pause to think life will be so much easier if we all believe in this.

But even when one abides by this thought, there will always be people who will have their opinions and pass remarks about you. Now coming down to the issue of objectification, is it necessary for us to get into the business of passing our judgments over others’ bodies?

This lady has an answer for you. 31-year-old Jojo Oldham decided to address body shaming through her artwork. She painted out all the words she has received as judgment for the body she was born into and chose to live with, all her life.

This badass artist has found a brilliant way to show people the mirror through this dress that she sells on her website. But yes there are good things said by kind people too!

Right from the comments about the weight of her body, the size of her breasts, to her hips, Oldham has painted them all in this ‘work of art’. And not to ignore she has even painted the compliments she has received through her life.

In her website, she writes, ‘The nasty things people have said about my appearance don’t upset me anymore, but they have stuck with me, and they have definitely shaped the way I think about myself. I think it’s a massive shame that we waste so much time thinking badly of ourselves and knocking each other down when we could all collectively decide to end this madness once and for all.’

Oldham began with painting the comments on paper but later realized that it would be more impactful to create something she could wear. Thus she bought a cheap white dress and started painting her heart out.

This is indeed a very classy way to show what comments and compliments mean to a person. Anything said and done stays with us as a part of our life. So we should accept ourselves first before trying to be accepted by others.
